Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God

Matthew 5:8
Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.

At the first reading, this verse seems impossible to achieve, especially since we are still living on earth. Firstly, it is extremely difficult to be pure in heart. Secondly, we cannot see God the Father with our own eyes, lest His Glory will destroy us. On careful reading, the second part may not mean physical seeing. One commentator regard seeing God as sharing God's visions. It is for sure that God gives His people visions both before and after Christ's time.

So this verse can be taken to be only those pure in heart is able to see visions revealed by God. So how does one become pure in heart in an impure world? There are times which we do have a pure heart and other times that we don't. Perhaps then, the goal is to increase those times when we are pure in heart.

Very simply, pure in heart mean having pure thinking in our own deeds as well as our relationship with others. We should learn to cast out impure thoughts - and we should know which ones are impure. In terms of relationship with people, the first would be forgiveness towards others. Then even for those people we do not have unforgiveness for, we must learn to think purely of them - that is as God sees them.

Some thoughts comparing the Second Coming with Birth of a Baby

Establishment of God's Kingdom - like birth of a baby.
Looking forward to the coming of the King and His Kingdom - like looking forward to the coming of the baby. No mother remembers the birth pain even so terrible because focus is on the other side of time - ie the birth. Same should be for coming of the Kingdom, should not be worried about tribulation pains if we are really focussed on God, we should be welcoming the Kingdom.

Keeping pure and holy - like mother keeping body pure before baby born
Very doable. Cutting caffeine, alcohol.
No mother concern 9 months is too long to keep pure.
So too we should not be concern we have a lifetime to keep pure, a lifetime is nothing compared to eternity with God.

1 Thessalonians 5
23 .... may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This verse can be a general application for all Christians, because the Lord is coming and we are meant to keep ourselves blameless. To put it in context, this chapter begins with the description of the Second Coming of our Lord Yshua Ha Masiach. Although the exact time will be unknown, there will be many signs so that those who watch will now. So the whole Body or Church is supposed to be alert to this, and keep ourselves pure in preparation for His Coming.

The verse mentions not only our physical body has to be pure, but so too do our spirit and soul. A preacher once defined these three quantities as follows: We ARE a spirit - the real us, we HAVE a soul - our intellect or mind and we LIVE in our body - the physical part. This verse says to keep all three blameless.

If this does not make sense then try thinking of the opposite of keeping just the body pure but unrestricting the soul and spirit. Pretty soon the spirit will motivate the person to unholiness, then the soul will rationalize or justify the actions, and quite soon the body will be helpless but follow what the soul and spirit directs. Hence all three must be kept blameless.

There is a Generation that is Pure in its Own Eyes

Most of the proverbs were written by Solomon, but the one in this chapter is stated to be written by Agur. Although the style is different to that of Solomon, the underlying objective is the encouragement of wisdom. Two verses which are prophetic are verses 4 and 6. In verse 4, although the main topic is God the Almighty, there is a reference to His Son - which makes it prophetic if it is written before Christ was born. Verse 6 is almost the same warning as in the last chapter of Revelation.

The proverb describes the sins of the generation as having increased from before. It then describes the characteristic of the generation as follows:
- there are things that are never satisfied
- things that are too wonderful,
- things that causes a disturbance or imbalance to the normal way,
- things which are little yet have a large impact.
- things which are majestic.




Proverbs 30
The Wisdom of Agur

1 The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, his utterance. This man declared to Ithiel—to Ithiel and Ucal:

2 Surely I am more stupid than any man,
And do not have the understanding of a man.

3 I neither learned wisdom
Nor have knowledge of the Holy One.

4 Who has ascended into heaven, or descended?
Who has gathered the wind in His fists?
Who has bound the waters in a garment?
Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is His name, and what is His Son’s name,
If you know?

5 Every word of God is pure;
He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.

6 Do not add to His words,
Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.

7 Two things I request of You
(Deprive me not before I die):

8 Remove falsehood and lies far from me;
Give me neither poverty nor riches—
Feed me with the food allotted to me;

9 Lest I be full and deny You,
And say, “Who is the Lord?”
Or lest I be poor and steal,
And profane the name of my God.

10 Do not malign a servant to his master,
Lest he curse you, and you be found guilty.

11 There is a generation that curses its father,
And does not bless its mother.

12 There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes,
Yet is not washed from its filthiness.

13 There is a generation—oh, how lofty are their eyes!
And their eyelids are lifted up.

14 There is a generation whose teeth are like swords,
And whose fangs are like knives,
To devour the poor from off the earth,
And the needy from among men.

15 The leech has two daughters—
Give and Give!
There are three things that are never satisfied,
Four never say, “Enough!”:

The barren womb,
The earth that is not satisfied with water—
And the fire never says, “Enough!”

17 The eye that mocks his father,
And scorns obedience to his mother,
The ravens of the valley will pick it out,
And the young eagles will eat it.

Yes, four which I do not understand:

19 The way of an eagle in the air,
The way of a serpent on a rock,
The way of a ship in the midst of the sea,
And the way of a man with a virgin.

20 This is the way of an adulterous woman:

21 For three things the earth is perturbed,
Yes, for four it cannot bear up:
