But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another

1 John 1:17
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Whatever the sin is, big or small, it is untouchable to the Holy God. God hates sin, so as we learn to walk with Him, we too should hate sin. It is more than just doing wrong or morally below standard. It also has something to do with our relationship with God, whether we obey and follow Him, or if we ignore Him. This is something the Holy Spirit can point out to us as we walk with God. So this means at the time of becoming a Christian, we may still not fully understand what sin is, but it is the beginning of a journey of being led by the Spirit.

And Enoch walked with God

Genesis 5:24
And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.

Believers are called to walk with God. This can only be done with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is not easy for our natural self to walk with God, but it is not impossible otherwise God would not have asked us to do so. A perfect example we can look to is Jesus Himself. As he taught us the secret, He only does what He hears the Father telling Him to do and not do the things the Father did not tell Him to do.

You are those who have continued with Me in My trials

Luke 22:28
You are those who have continued with Me in My trials

Our Lord Yshua is with us during our temptations. Are we with Him in His temptations? The next question may be How are we in His temptations? As we walk with God, the temptations that He faced would also come to us. As we are faced with the same temptations, are we walking even more closely with Him, so that we can draw upon Him and walk with Him through the temptations?

Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you

John 12:35
Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.

At one point, our Lord told His disciples that He will not always be with them. Even though God is present everywhere, there are times when we need to walk alone. So rejoice in the presence of God, and sanctify ourselves as much as we can while we are in a spiritual high with him. The Holy Spirit is always with us. Yet there will be darkness, and yes we can depend on the Holy Spirit, but we need to build a relationship with Him and learn to hear His voice. So that during the dark times we are still in touch with Him.

Those who wait on the Lord

Isaiah 40:13
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

For one action above, which is to wait on the Lord, the benefits and blessings are many. We will have renewed strength, we will have power to rise above the situation, we will not be tired despite having to run around, and we will walk with calm and steadfastness and not fainting given the pressures.

So what does waiting involve. There is no hidden definition of this waiting. It is a matter of waiting for God, once we presented out situation to Him. We would have prayed to Him about our situation, and so waiting for His hand to move. So the wait also involve patience on our part and not try to do things to help ourselves.

For we walk by faith, not by sight

2 Corinthians 5:7
For we walk by faith, not by sight.

We normally walk by sight as humans. Among our 5 physical senses, sight is the one most of us depends on the most. However, this is contrary to the life that God wants us to walk. To walk by faith is to lead a life of faith. Rather than trusting what we can see in the physical world, faith requires us to place our trust in Yshua, not knowing the full picture of where we are going.

Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death

Romans 6:4
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

The term "Born Again" has been used for much of the last few decades to denote those who are real Christians, mainly because they have made their own conscious decision. This is meant to be in contrast to a group of people who had Christian heritage, tradition and legacy but do not truly believe in the Lord Jesus.

This passage reminds us that "Born Again" is just one aspect of the relationship to be with Christ. It uses the image of baptism into death to make us conscious that we must spiritually die to our old selves. Only when our old person die, then we can be raised by the resurrection of Christ. Only then can we have a genuine walk with Christ.

The most practical example to dying to our old selves is to die to our old habits. That is to seek God and overcome the old habits. Hence those old habits are powerless against us since we are dead to it and being made alive in Christ.
